Visit to Orphanage – by Widit McLean
Apr 5, 2017
Yesterday afternoon, we visited an orphanage outside Port-au-Prince, the Foyer de Sion, run by a man and wife. Guesno Mardy was a taxi driver, but his wife, a social worker, pursued him to open the orphanage. They currently have 125 children, age 1 to 19, and 30 staff and volunteers. The children are adorable! The 1st group we met were supposed to be resting, but were jumping up and down in their cribs instead. They all wanted to be picked up and cuddled, so, after asking permission, we each did just that, one child after the
other – continually. I think we all ended up leaving most of our remaining cash with Guesno.
