Many of you will recall Tennesee Ernie Ford’s song… “I loaded 16 tons and what do you get?”

Well, we will have shovelled and wheelbarrowed away 13 tons of rubble by (Jim Fisher’s estimate), a difficult but necessary step in the classroom building process. 

What we got was yes another day older but satisfaction of having cleared the way so the children could again use their slides and many laughs along the way.

Yesterday we had a trip to the interior to a church service about one hour off the highway along incredibly bumpy roads. We were to be the beneficiaries of some great singing, a fiery sermon in Creole and warm greetings from the congregation. Chris said a few words to the parishioners mostly women and young people. It was good to see another part of Haiti where the people are desperately poor – $2 /day and rarely get to another area of Haiti. We are told there are thousands of similar villages. Fortunately, few were affected by the earthquake. 

We also had a visit to the Nat Museum as well as a speaker, Wilson, who gave us a short history of Haiti. Tomorrow we are told the blocking will start. Some of us can’t wait, however, there is a group who want to finish off the rubble.
