January 15, 2012 Church, Rest and Rotary Meeting

Hello All,

Today was a fantastic day. It was very hot out. We started the day by walking to the Kilema Catholic Church. We went to the 10:00 a.m. Children’s Mass. There was about  750 plus kids there in their Sunday best.It was a great mass with them all singing and the children were all curious about us also. After Church we got to shake lots the kids hands.

After Church we all went for a long walk and Rotarian Cynoc Lyimo – who is a Civil Engineer, and he showed us where they have the Rotary Meeting. We then took a long walk on the  path and the road to the Mount Kilimanjaro Resort. Numerous times we had to get over to let the motor bikes go by. We sat at the outdoor  covered bar and enjoyed a cold beverage when we first arrived at the Resort. The  Resort is a new (approx 5 years old) modern upscale hotel. We all had a fantastic lunch and then some of us went swimming in the pool. The water was very cold, but refreshing.

Then we went for walk again, to the Rotary Meeting for Kilema Club. It was a fun meeting held outdoors on a patio. Each of their members was introduced to us and they introduced ourselves to their members. There was a cow mooing next door for most of the meeting and also roosters crowing. Rotarian Roger helped out a fellow Rotarian when she was fined for arriving late. All of the members were happy to see us. We are meeting Rotarian Joseph and Rotarian Cynoc tomorrow to review more clinics. Their member Joseph presented a very detailed summary of the activity of their club over the past year and information about the membership and administration of the club.

Good to see you are working hard! Forgot how cold that pool was – kids like the photos, but would love some of the children as well. Hope you survive the heat.
