Tanzania 2012 – We’re Here
The team has landed in Tanzania after uneventful flights. Our first day in Moshi was mostly relaxed with some logistics (phones, internet access), and meeting with the CACHA coordinator Winstone. We were lunch guests at Honey Badger Lodge and visited the Second Chance School.
The school was one of the joint 7070/Moshi projects last year. The science lab the team worked on is now complete with Mama Lucy looking for a source of lab equipment. The girls dormitory is now complete except for doors. On the lodge side of things they have completed a beautiful pool complex and have expanded the camping and accommodations. We were lucky to meet Dr. Sue Crawford of IMEC (our partner in the Kilema Hospital Global Grant). Earlier this week she visited the Kilema Hospital and found that nearly all the equipment the grant provided was in place and being used. Three items 0f equipment have some minor issue which are being addressed.

“Big Boss” Bill Wray was a natural attractant for the numerous “fly catchers” cruising the streets of Moshi. These young men are the “snake oil salesman” of Tanzania, always offering the best “deals” on the latest tourist trinkets.
The weather is hot (35+ Celsius) the beer is cold, and the fellowship is great.

Tomorrow we are starting the “real” work. We have 2 rural medical clinics to visit tomorrow one close to Moshi and the other more remote (4WD access only).
