Second Day at Work
Well, we’re getting pretty good at this. We’ve made 550 pavers, straightened many nails for reuse, painted walls with a primer with fungicide in it, helped in the kitchen, packed up bags of school supplies, noodles, and toothpaste and toothbrushes. We’re carrying gravel and sand in pails hanging from a bamboo pole. We can’t imagine how we’re going to get the pavers out of the six-sided molds, but stay tuned.
A real highlight has been the food. At lunch on the worksite they serve us an enormous buffet with everything you can imagine and some things maybe you can’t. We’ve had wonderful dinners in Siem Reap which is the liveliest town I’ve been in for a long time. Our hotel has all the mod cons including wi fi in every room. A great buffet breakfast is laid out every morning for breakfast at six. We get to the job site early to try to beat the heat – not always successful but we’ve got tons of water, and the biggest treat of all, individual coconuts with straws so we all get coconut water which is filled with electrolytes and tastes delicious.
All in all, we’re having a great time. We’re very impressed with the work that has been done at BTC in years past and hope we can make a meaningful contribution before we leave.
