Our painters lead by co-trip leader Brian Westlake and complemented by Paul and Cynthia Cusimano, Vicki Malo, Frank Newell, Rahim Wallani, Rob Leek, Widit McLean and Maureen Bird have painted the outside of the Education building several times in preparation for its Cambodian Red as well as a large portion of the 5 inside rooms. This is the building funded primarily by The Rotary Club of Toronto as a Centennial Year Grant.

 

Tom and Doreen Sears, Pat Snyder, Heather Kemp and Hellie Weller have done an amazing amount of work on several new gardens. BTC is a fine tribute to Ronnie Yimsut our erstwhile leader and Killing Fields Survivor, himself a landscape architect.

Caroline Hall, Norma McLean and Joyce Westlake are into the tile-making business in a way that would rival previous teams and that says something.

As for me I wander from activity to activity hoping to find some way I can be useful. This has ranged from shovelling to pulling wheelbarrows, to painting, to moving bricks but overall to make sure everything happens.

 

At noon everyday we are treated to an outstanding lunch created by Paul Truelove and Salsa, a local Cambodian and his team. The Khmer food is outstanding, vegetables, noodles and lots of fish from their own ponds.

What is most amazing is of the 19 Rotarians and friends on our trip 12 are over 70. There are 5 of us born in 1941…you do the math.

This vocational school was started in 2009 and has several language, cooking and computer classes. 

After the Grand Opening on Thursday, November 29th the full focus will be to create and run an outstanding vocational school programme.

We are very proud to be a part of this school from day one. In fact there are 9 of us who were here with the first team in 2009  and almost 70 who have participated in this project since then..in my mind a remarkable achievement.
