Our Work
OUR WORK

Our work has been focused in the Kilema area. Kilema is a community on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro just hours away from the great game parks. The Catholic Church plays a dominant role in the lives of the local people. Traditionally a coffee-producing area, it is very poor. Approximately 20% of the people between 15 & 49 are HIV positive. Approximately 20% of the children in the school are AIDS orphans. The seven teams that have been to Kilema and the surrounding area have helped to refurbish five schools, build two new ones, provide books and trained teachers to teach English. We have assisted in funding and building an AIDS Centre, provided vehicles for the orphan program, provided school supplies, soccer uniforms, hospital equipment and mosquito nets. We also have over 100 children on a bursary so they can go to secondary school. We are involved in a partnership with a newly formed Rotary Club to refurbish the furrows which come from the snows of Mt. Kilimanjaro so people will receive clean water.
Since going there in 2007, we have been able to fund over $1.3 million of community projects. Approximately 98% of the money has gone directly to the beneficiaries.
Our partners are CACHA(Canadian Africa Community Health Alliance) www.cacha.ca based in Ottawa and CSRAI(Canadian Support of Rural African Initiatives) www.csrai.com.

About the Region
ABOUT THE REGION

Map of Tanzania
Tanzania lies just south of the equator. It is East Africa’s largest country and an immensely rewarding place to visit. Tanzania is known for the plains and animals of the Serengeti, snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest mountain) and Zanzibar with its many beaches.
